Since the early 2000s, Esther M. Choi's artistic practice—focused on the intersections of photography and sculpture—has been complemented by high-profile commissions across editorial and commercial platforms. With a background in both photography and architectural history/theory, Choi’s still life photography, often driven by her own creative direction, engages with broader conceptual and cultural narratives, transforming everyday subjects into memorable and thought-provoking tableaux.
In 2020, her conceptual art cookbook Le Corbuffet was named a finalist for the James Beard Foundation Photography Award, praised for its unique approach to food photography as a form of cultural critique. Her work for T: The New York Times Style Magazine earned her a nomination for a 2024 ASME National Magazine Award. Choi holds degrees from Princeton University, Harvard University, Concordia University, and Toronto Metropolitan University. She currently works from her studio in Brooklyn, New York.
